CCDnavigator

Anyone know how CCDNavigator arrives at their "brightness" or magnitude values?

It lists a criteria of min brightness (mag) that can be set from 0 to 99?

They list M8 as magnitude 30! Something is not right in their (these) values!

I ask this as I'm trying to filter target criteria to a smaller list but their magnitude values are all wonky making it difficult! I searched their forum but found nada & their help file is ..poor..at best.

Anyone?

CCDNavigator fix

Anyway..to solve my own problem and to provide insight for others...

CCDNavigator magnitude is the apparent magnitude of the target..from what I can tell. I don't know why they go to mag 99...who knows.

Anyway you can edit the properties of targets yourself. In this case M8 is listed in the Advanced Imaging Catalogue (AIC) and this is an xml file.

All you need is an xml editor..I used xml notepad from Microsoft. Opened the data file and and searched for the entry "M8" (of which there were many)...anyway to cut to the chase....found the magnitude entry and changed it from "30" to "6" saved file.

Now all is good!

Edit:
forgot to say the AIC is in your "X:\My Documents\CCDWare\CCDNavigator2\Cat alogs" folder
