Gotta admit though, it's a little better deal than a tiny little rundown townhouse in Fitzroy for that price

Thing to remember, I suppose, is that they have clouds pretty much all the time there on the west coast. Such a pity!

Some places would be worth giving up astronomy to live at. But... probably not this one

Pity about the cloudy skies.
We could have all put in together and started an astronomy cult.

I think I'd still go there for the photographic opportunities!
Ah, but to have a spare million lying about doing nothing.

Actually, thinking about it a bit more, I think the other problem migt be horizons .... tall mountains all around Providenice foreground silloettes and detail under some circumstances, and get in the way other times

I'm afraid that's a legally binding agreement.
You'll have to come up for the money quick!

Oi... thats not polite!
I happen to have been in the S.W. when the sky was clear (1997, April 1st). Black as ink!
However... in the interests of keeping the myth alive, and the spread of the "north island subspecies" in managable numbers , I'll agree in totality with your comment.... Tassies climate is crap and the oise-bergs in the Derwent never melt, no matter how many of me 2 headed bogan relies I try to get chopping at them trees to build foiers to melt the bloody things.... Even me 1/8 sister, Shanikera claudette, can't get it roite.

It might just be me, but wouldn't setting the trees alight with a magnifying glass be more effective than chopping at them?

LOL I been there! It's a miserable blardy place.
Theres a train ride you can take from Christchurch city on the east side of the south island called the Trans alpine.
That goes from Christchurch over to a town on the west coast but I forget the name.
The train ride stops for a while at a place called Arthurs pass at the highest point.
When you are going from Christschurch to Arthurs pass the whole way your drooling and thinking I will put an obs there and one there and another one there!!! It's a ripper area for astro.
So you stop at Arthurs pass which isn't a bad spot but it's a valley so may be not so great for astro but it would be nice if your into the log cabin life!
Anyhow then the train goes from Arthurs pass down to the west coast and on the way it goes thru that town that is for sale.
From arthurs pass down to the west the scenery completly changes from kind of almost desert on the east to blardy rain forst on the west from Arthurs pass!!!
Only its COLD rain forest! And always raining and cloudy and it get lots of snow to.
You would have ta PAY me to live in that town!!!
