Challenges for a beginner

I've just recently stumbled (well, not stumbled.. It was recommended by quite a few) across this forum and I was wondering what other interesting sights can be photographed other than Eta Carinae? I'm not too interested in stars and their trails, but I would really like to get some decent planet shots and more nebulas. So, post some challenges

I am using a standard Pentax K-x and I have a number of lenses with various focal lengths (18mm - 500mm). I also have a fixed tripod.

This is my best Eta Carinae photo so far. It comprises of ~350 light frames, ~40 dark frames and ~20 offset/bias frames. All stacked in DeepSkyStacker.

try the Swan nebula area M17, the Prawn nebula (in the imaging challange section) these will do reasonably well with widefield.
