Bright Red/Orange Object

Just checked Heavens above - nothing close by.

This is something that I have never seen before travelling west east - red - orange object at 11.37pm. Very bright, slow moving and then vanished. Can someone confirm what satellites not noted on HA that were visible.

Cheers Petra d.

The only satellite I can find that might be visible is RS-15 but that is low in the west moving south and would probably been hidden by the moon.

At around about the same time I also spotted something in the NW sky. I was just leaving work in Sydney's south, looked up at the sky as I always do and saw a bright and quite slow moving light drift across the sky then disappear. At first I thought it was a flare but on reflection it blinked out too quickly for that. I've seen many meteors before but this one was whiter, brighter & slower so I'm still not sure what it was.

Hi Clarry

It was just not your normal sat pass over - it was very slow and very bright - but maybe the red/orange that I was getting was pollution. Looks like it will remain a mystery?

Thanks for posting.

Cheers Petra
