I'm trying to find a way to make collimating my 8" dob easier. The secondary is fine, but the primary has locking screws right next to the collimating screws, and this is a problem for Bob's Knobs....
Has anyone found a way around this? I have read on other posts suggesting getting rid of the locking screws and using bob's knobs together with strong springs to hold the primary securely, but in emails with Bob he thought this might not work..to quote: (hope this is ok Bob!)
"It's certainly possible. However, almost all Newts in this category use the lock screws to make sure that the primary stays collimated as the scope is moved from side to side. If the mirror cell is supported by springs alone, it will tend to shift from side to side as the scope is moved. In your particular case I'd recommend using the factory screws for collimation."
I'm tempted to try this solution anyway. If the collimation held for a whole evening it would be fine (I think?), and the more accessible knobs would make collimation at the start of the evening much easier.
Can anyone offer any advice?
