Tele Vue Radian sale - buy two, get one free

Tele Vue are having a sale on their Radian line of eyepieces http://www.televue.com/engine/RadianSale.asp. I'd quite like to buy a 6mm Radian but I've no need for any other focal lengths. Are there any other people out there who would be interested in banding together to buy three Radian eyepieces collectively so we could each gain a 1/3rd saving on purchase price?

Please be aware that Televue dealers in the usa are not permitted to sell to us Aussies and to do so breaches their dealer agreement.

This is not to say that it doesnt happen, but dealer names shouldnt be discussed publicly lest they get in trouble for helping you.

Actually, the Televue dealer agreement for OPT changed last year sometime according to Rayna, the sales manager over there. They can now ship Televue to anywhere.

I have bought a few things from them when the Televue dealer here is out of stock - price is about the same (non-sale items), maybe $50 less, but it is faster than waiting for the next Aus dealer ordering cycle, which has been up to three weeks for me.

Great deal indeed. I recently got the William Optic FLT110mm DDG scope and was thinking of getting the William Optics SPL set 3mm, 6mm 12.5mm. They would be similar to the Radian in term of angle of view and eye relief. With 1/3 of the price I am tempted to get the Radian instead. After postage and crappy exchange rate it is under $200 each. That is a saving of over $80 each. Is it correct that Televue are one of the best eyepieces around?

With the Australian dollar having dropped substantially relative to the $US recently it is cheaper to buy from somewhere local that has stock than it is to import three Radians from overseas. Bintel have treated me well in the past and their price ($279) seems fair.

I have some Televue Naglar Type 6 eyepieces,they are great.I really like them.

However,a friend saw these,and bought some same type and focal length,plus a 20 mm 2inch one,from same place,But,unlike mine which had made in Japan stamped on them,his had FOC China!,and he paid $750 for one.To me this is unexceptable,I would not like to pay so much for something made in China.

Also another chap bought a top of the line Televue 102 Apo refractor,and after a couple of weeks all the paint inside the tube bubbled up,had a devil of a time with Televue.(although the optics were very good,bubbly paint on a tube valued at $3500,is not good!)

I think I will stick with made in Japan only.Vixen and Taks

Lifes to short for inferior optics,just my observation.

The latest deal from Bintel is fantastic. I bought 5mm, 14mm and 18mm Radians today at a total cost of $558 for the three as this is Tele Vue's current offer of " buy two Radians and get one free ".

I recall in one of my earlier posts that in early 2003, Radians were priced at $549 each! This was due to the poor exchange rates at the time. At $186 each I certainly can't complain apart from the fact they are a great eyepiece particularly for eyeglass wearers like me.

This is a Tele Vue sale, all of their dealers will be involved.

Chris, Tele Vue has manufactured eyepieces in Japan and Taiwan for many years. I do not care which country my Tele Vue oculars come from, I just care whether they perform well. All of Tele Vue's scopes are assembled in NY, USA from optics manufactured elsewhere. I'm sorry to hear that the owner of the TV102 your mentioned had trouble getting the fault rectified, that's not the kind of result Tele Vue typically offers (nor for the price charged should it be!).

In case the above looks like some kind of Tele Vue defense from a `raving fan' it isn't supposed to be. I believe that Al Nagler and company make (mostly) very fine products of which I own four - one each of the Nagler, plossl and Wide Field (the precursor to the Panoptic line) eyepieces and a Powermate. I mostly prefer a different brand of eyepiece (Pentax) and my scopes are all from other manufacturers.

Back to the original question asked in this thread. So far I've had one PM and there have been a couple of posts above from interested people, is anybody else interested in joining together to take advantage of this deal?

I think they'll have to permanently drop the price or stop production. In the longer focal lengths most observers will prefer a wider AFOV; at the shorter end there are cheaper planetary eyepieces, unless you need the eye relief for glasses. I imagine most don't need glasses at high mag/small exit pupil.

The obvious weakness of the TMB planetary is poor glare control on bright objects, otherwise they're nice eyepieces. I imagine the Radian doesn't have that problem, along with better eye relief (12mm on the TMB) and overall better quality control.

The TMB's big advantage (in my mind) over the Radians was really only related to the cost difference. The bang for buck for the TMB was really good.

I'm not a Radian guru by any means but for their purpose they are like all TV products well executed and high quality.

Reduce the price gap (as has happened) and I'd likely take the radians over the TMBs
