WO120 & Atik 383 - a union

Apologies to all in Brissy when we see clouds for the next 6 months. Due to my recent purchase that arrived in the mail today, I have doomed us all to bad weather.

The new toy(s) are the WO 120mm Megrez doublet with the recent 2nd gen DDG focuser along with an Atik 383L+ Colour CCD. Many thanks to theastroguy in Perth for setting me up with this kit, I've taken the plunge in a serious way to astrophotography of late and this is where I've ended up, hopefully not having to buy anything new for some time.

The jury is still out on field flatteners', as it's the first WO120 in the country, the people at WO are still in testing on the flatteners. Whilst the 383 CCD chip has had great reviews, yet another first in the country for Atik on this model as well. Hopefully the union between the two items will be a happy one.

Hey Mark

The scope/camera look great.

I'll be very interested in how it performs visually compared to my FLT110.

If it's of use, you are welcome to try out the FLT flattener I have for comparison.

I look forward to seeing your images at the meetings.

All the best with the new toy

Geoff

Nice looking rig there with a lot of similarities as mine except I have the FLT110 and a piggy-back configuration. I am fairly sure your next purchase will be a field flattener. Hopefully the FF for the FLT110 and 132 will suit the 120.

BTW lovely teddy bear collection...lol

So you're the culprit responsible for the weather!

Looks very impressive Mark - look forward to seeing this in action in due course.

P.S. My modded camera has returned!

Impressive. I heard a lot of good about this particular camera and they are priced very reasonably too. Looking forward to first light.

I managed to get out last night to see a small gap in the clouds, since it was first light, am still looking at the shots I managed to take. I'll post something up after I process.

How do mean Mark? The 383L+ runs a Kodak 8300 sensor, same as the SBIG ST-8300, FLI ML-8300, QHY-9 and a host of others, so is ther something different about the Atik's version?

Hey Chris,

It's the first "Atik" 383c in the country, like yourself I am well aware of the other brands which posses this chip. The chip has gotten very good reviews and feedback, not only from others in my astro club who currently own 8300 chip cameras, but also from other web based reviews.

As for the difference - it's red? red goes faster right?

That's not red, it's hot pink. Just ask your bears.
