Why would anyone change their name from Arnold Dorsey to Englebert Humperdinck?

I guess because in a crowded marketplace of 60's wannabe pop idols, it made him stand out like a sore thumb. His canny manager Gordon Mills (who'd made his fortune and reputation after renaming and promoting little-known Welsh singer Thomas Woodward, as Tom Jones), realised that people who came to laugh, would stay to listen, once they heard that velvet voice.

Ok,
I just went and listened to Ten Guitars - after hearing the words, I'm not sure why this would be an unofficial NZ anthem???
Please explain? Curious really?

Nice strum-along rhythm for a guitar, easy to sing, easy to play, simple lyrics (and everybody knows them), add beer = a good, old-fashioned Kiwi party.

Ta for that,
Just making sure I wasn't missing a hidden meaning or message. I'm often guilty of that.

I'm not sure what shocks me more - the fact that he's still performing, or the fact that he is still alive...

74 and not out.
Good on him for getting out there, he's enjoying his chosen profession.

He's 74??? Gosh he's holding his age well! He will always woo the women no matter what age he is. He is the master of romantic music. I wonder who even comes close? I'd probably say Andre Rieu, though it's a different style of music, but woo and romance, all the same.

Phew! I'm glad someone asked that question... for the life of me I couldn't work that one out myself. I love the song but .

I did not know this.... Gosh I don't think the name Arnold Dorsey suits him at all. Even though E.H. is a weird name, for some reason, with him it works, and works well. Completely takes away from the image. I don't know what I am more surprised with - that or Astro Ron saying someone else shares the same name!

Sorry - I meant today - who would even come close, aside from Andre today? The complete package: music, image, looks. Oh, I just thought of one.. Michael Buble. Can't think of anyone else though.
