Yes Fred is a legend, also Astronomica is a great book for newbies like me. Wonderful images and great text, with broad group of subjects.
the book was / is on special at QBD $29 (was $79!) Also while in QBD I bought another heavy book "Universe" $45 (was $89!) both very useful reference books for general astro knowledge at bargain prices.

BTW I recently joined SEQAS and have been to their meetings and camp at Hazeldean. All great folk ready to help beginners and experienced alike. Just like the IIS community

Some great clear skies around Brissie at present, but I seem to be attracting a bunch of clouds when ever I think of setting up. There must be a scientific reason for this as other people mention it
