USB bus blown or QHY5 blown - or both

I can't figure this one out at all. I transferred cameras and guiding gear from one scope to another today and with the intention of running it off a different computer also. The same computer had previously run my QHY5 guider and my ASCOM/EQMOD setup plus the QHY8 just fine. But not today.
The USB bus was able to find the QHY5 and connect to it when first connected but unable to find the QHY8 despite remiving and reloading drivers several times. Then, it wouldn't find either and if I connected the QHY5 to the powered USB hub while the QHY8 was already connected to it, it shut it down entrirely - lights went out and shut it down. I decided this needed testing step by step, sO I loaded the QHY8 onto a laptop alone and it found it and used it just fine. When I connected the QHY5 to the same laptop, I got the message of a power surge on the hub and on another occasion, the laptop reported that it was now in AC mode (when it already was) so it seems that somehow the QHY5 was seriously messing with the USB hubs and now seems totally unusable.
Has anyone else encountered this sort of issue with a QHY5?

Peter.

Peter,
I'd be checking the socket on the qhy5 and any usb cables for bent/twisted/shorting contacts.

Yep. Did that. No issues.
Dunno. I suspect the USB bus on the desktop I have used for that scope may have #$%t itself. Process of elimination coming up I think.
And just in time for 3 or 4 days of more cloudy weather.

The USB socket on my QHY5 broke a while ago. I cracked the small piece of plastic inside the USB socket, so it only made partial contact with the cable.
I broke it while trying to plug in the camera without using a torch to see what I was doing.
A friend was able to solder in a new one for me, but is was rather tricky.
