Trapezium - Stars E & F

Hi

I tried to image the 6 stars A to F in the Trapezium in M42, the Great Orion Nebula last night, after giving up on Mars due to the mediocre seeing. I had to really “pump up” the image to show stars E and F and think that I have succeeded, although it doesn’t look too pretty!

First image is the stacked output from Registax3.
Second image is “pumped” in AIP4Win.

congratulations.

this is one target along with a host of doubles (gammas2delphinus) that i want to image with tracking.

this is a first for me to see on the screen. well done & thanks!

Thanks Dave. I'll be taking lessons off Ken as he aced his 5 whereas I had to pump my image to get the 6 !

Thanks for posting this, I could see four a few nights ago, now that know where to look I'll try and find the rest of them.

seeing, collimation and knowing where they are. if the seeing is bad, the two bigger ones twinkle out the little ones.

TOP STUFF!!!! I've been trying for this too but when I get good seeing I only concentrate on planets. I've gotten 5 a few times & once I THOUGHT I got 6 but never bothered to post it...Well done!

Good stuff Dennis ! thats the only thing we got to view last night at Kulnura ,It's nice seeing the E & F stars of the trap.

Got it in three Dave! I was concerned that I couldn't visually see all 6 in my C9.25 yet my Vixen 4" refractor bags them nearly every time.

The difference with the C9.25 is that I've followed Rumples' informative and encouraging posts on collimation, and got less scared of tweaking the secondary now that I have Bob's knobs. This has made a significant difference, as well as good seeing.

I was led to believe either or both (E&F) are variables.Thats why is sometimes harder to see or image them.
Still, a good result.
