Hi all, Aristarchus is an extraordinarily bright crater, visible also on the night side of the Moon in Earthshine, centre of bright ray system. Nearby is the flooded crater Herodotus with diameter of 35kms. Schroteri Valley above it is the largest sinuous valley on the Moon with a length of 160kms and maximum depth is 1000metres.
You’ve managed to record some nice detail in the walls of the Aristarchus crater and in your image, I’ve just noticed for the first time (for me), what appears to be a cliff or wall in the head of the serpentine looking Schroteri Valley, marked by the distinct shadow.
A difficult region to image because of the huge range of brightness – you’ve done well to pull it off.
