March Weather

At the risk of being off topic...

As the weather is relevent to astronomy and there are quite a few of us with weather stations, I thought it might be interesting to compare weather data from different locations. Mainly just for interest's sake, but you never know, over a long time (if we keep it up) we could end up with data that might affect someone's decision to relocate for astro reasons.

So I thought I'd kick off with a summary of the weather for March 2010 here in Oberon (Pocklebonk Walls actually) taken straight out of Cumulus (pasted below). To get this report from Cumulus: View, This Month then select the appropriate month and Update Display. Then Copy to Clipboard and paste in your post.

Feel free to add an equivalent summary for you location or compare weather.

Al.

Hey Geoff

That sunscreen with SPF factor 2million and freezer suit must come in handy.

I've had a few rainfall anomalies with Cumulus, used Cumulus Toolbox to fix things up, nice and easy.

Wind Run - from the Cumulus web site

A measurement of how much wind has passed a given point in a period of time. A wind blowing at three miles per hour for an entire hour would give a wind run of three miles.

The Cumulus software looks a lot better than the Heavy Weather software I'm currently using with my Lacrosse station, I'll have to give it a go.

As tempted as I am to run a web site from my weather station I don't do it due to my up/download limits on satellite. If I had unlimited broadband like I had when I was in town I would.

Its much better than Easyweather IMHO. I changed to Cumulus after having some issues with EW and the station itself, and despite losing any touch screen functionality on my station, Cumulus works a dream!

After comparing the average wind speeds and wind runs for the posts so far, I'm almost convinced there's a problem with the average speed on my station, but I think it may depend a lot on how much time is dead calm...

Wow... I'm surprised at the difference with mine, considering we aren't that far apart! I'm guessing you're probably sheltered by ridges or trees compared to my place!

A bit protected by trees, but I would class it as pretty windy - lost 3 trees in the last couple of years (thank you more sky) I shall investigate further this month is nearly 800 already - by the way in the station configuration do you have any wind settings checked ?

Also the distance between here and Oberon is about 85km not 45 as shown in the threads...

i think there is a way to update the website using the realtime.txt file only
so the upload would be minimal

Downloaded Cumulus last night and all went well until I closed it down for a moment, upon restarting it keeps locking up.

I'm using windows XP with service pack 3.

I'll try reloading again tonight and have another read of the instructions, probably something minor that I've missed in the configuration and setup stage.

Cheers
