G'day Rod

Why the sell?

I'm interested but as a 9.25 owner am wondering whether I should bother given both our scopes are f10s???

How does it perform in your scope?

Hi Matt,

Bottom line is that I want a Williams Optics crayford focuser for my SCT to get rid of image shift, and that is the best way I can finance the purchase!

The 13 Nagler is a wonderful EP. There are lots of air currents around Point Clare where I live, which pushes the 195x mag in my scope from the Nag just beyond the point of clear focus on a lot of nights. When seeing is good at home, or where I go out to darker skies with steadier conditions, it is simply awesome. Just a matter of priorities.

I assume the focal length of your OTA is shorter than mine, and that magnification would be a little lower in your scope (about 180x). That being the case, it would probably be perfect for your scope.

Ausastronomer (John Bambury) is pretty cluey on these issues - you have probably seen many of his posts about Eps. You may wish to PM him to get his thoughts as well. I'm sure he'll recommend the EP to you.

You're not thinking of getting a Binoviewer?

Please note that all Televue eyepiecs are warranted for 5 years from the date of purchase. Only disassembly or rough handling voids the warranty. I am happy to include in the offer an undertaking to:

1. Call on the warranty for the purchaser during the next 4.75 years if there is any problem, and

2. Honour such warranty myself for the same period if there is any issue with Televue honouring its warranty.

I may be prepared to move on price, so if you are interested, make me your best offer.

You're such a lawyer, Rod

I can confirm this is an excellent eyepiece, having tested one myself for a period of 2 or 3 months. There's a review of it in the Reviews section of the site.

Hi John, and thanks for the heads up on the other focuser option. Have you purchased one? How has it performed?

I have already used the Williams Optics crayford focuser for SCT one night at one of our NSW observing meetings (courtesy of Louie - thanks mate!) and I am very happy to go with the Williams Optics option. I am aware of the zenith issue....but the smooth fine focus action of the crayford is all I could ever want, and I will live with the slight inconvenience. I'd rather this than buy one of the focusers you have referred me to without a trial.

I am advised by Daniel from Frontier Optics that the Williams Optics crayford has been improved further since with 1/10 two focus options, providing even better focus. It now retails for AUD310, which is not that much more than the other option you have directed me to, bearing in mind exchange rates and delivery costs.

No haven't I haven't tried it Rod but reading the reviews I don't think one can go to far wrong.
We're considering the purchase at present, at the current exchange rate it works out at about $200 Aus. That means $110 towards another eyepiece.

I just like the idea of being able to clear the forks at Zenith.

Here is what I need you to do, John. Order it from the US by courier, test it within the next 3 days in a 10"LX200, and provide me with a 10 page comprehensive report by this time next week............

You can tell your delightful other half that you are contributing to the greater good of the Australian astronomical community.......

Anyone know what's up with Tony? I hope he's allright. He should have offered at least $500 for the Nagler by now.
