AS&T collimation query.

Hi all.
Just wondering if anyone has a opinion on glueing a ring onto the primary mirror for collimation as described on page 75 of december's AS&T? was thinking of long term effects of the glue on the mirror coating.
Thankyou all and Merry Xmas.

Hi Mick.

I don't believe there's any problem glueing a ring onto the primary.. after all, most mirrors come centre spotted already these days. It's directly under the secondary mirror as well, so no light is actually hitting that part of the mirror.

You can simply use a circle ring-binder to stick as well.

What sort of scope do you have?

Collimation ring

Haven't seen the article, but assume it involves putting a small circle in the middle of the mirror to assist in collimation. I have a ring hole binder reinforcement ring ( about 7mm diam, 3-4mm central hole) on ALL my mirrors, I'd be lost without it. Using the Cheshire eyepiece its easy to achieve success.
Recommend it to everyone with a reflector.
( If you ever need to re-aluminise the mirror it will come off during the normal cleaning process)

Centre spotting with ring binders is simply SOP with reflectors. No harm done as the ring will be in the shadow of the secondary mirror.

Cheers
