real estate serches by acres

I like to look up rural real estate as I plan my future...and future observatory site.

Unfortunately despite some very good sites i frequently peruse, none seems to have that magical way of sorting/searching by acreage (would of course require all listings to have the data in there int he fist place but how hard could that be?)

I so wish someone could fix this so I can search sites with acreage perhaps broken down by groups such as under 5, 5-20- 20-50-50-100, etc with option to select all etc...

I'm primarily looking at 20- 100 or 20- 200 acres (or equivalent in hectares- why cant we just agree on one measure too but that's another bug bear...).

just a thought.

Anyone know of a good site that allows to do this ?

Is everybody looking at this at once, or does the site just not work..........

Cheers,
Jason.

It works, but slowly and not much choice in NSW.

We went out to Hartley on Sunday (in the middle of the day) to have a look around for something with a view and a somewhere to put an observatory. If the traffic on the Great Western Hwy was typical, we'll be removing anything out that way from consideration.

I dream/plan a similar dream. As I posted on another thread a year or so ago...

Hmm, that's the thing isn't it.... where in Aus satisfies ALL criteria?

Dark skies (clear zone on light overlay)
Good altitude (over 1000m)
Good latitude (Nth of about 30 degrees South?)
Reasonable access (not more than two hours from a good size town)
Reasonable cost (....?)

I nearly have the missus convinced, but she'd also throws in 'near the coast'.
I think within 1 - 1.5 hours of Sydney has to be discounted due to current or near future light pollution levels.
I drove up the road between Goulburn and Taralga one dark night a few weeks ago and it looked pretty good, but there's no guarantee that another satellite suburb of Goulburn won't pop up in the next 10 - 20 years and ruin your party. Maybe it has to be up Coonabarrabran way, as they have sensible light polution laws......

I would add to the above list 'Broadband internet availability'

Cheers,
Jason.

Hey mate dunno about home but theres some good places in the south island of NZ like this.
Do a search for Lake Tekapo.
Only thing there is that they are way more south of 30 degrees so bit of a spanner.
You would have to be ultra keen on astronomy to pack it all in and move to NZ but.
Right now I am still in NZ and I love astro heaps but I am still gonna head home asap.

Across the Tasman

The skies down Tekapo way are so clear and dark, you could read a book by the light of the Milky Way. Probably complain about the glare, actually!

Realistically, if you are prepared to travel, anywhere outside of a 100km radius of any sizable town should do. You can buy half of the N.T. for the price of a Bondi flat, but its a long commute.

Thanks Everyone,
Thanks Peter, I actually quite like the Realestate.com.au site and has now become the default one I use. It is unfortunate that it doesn't allow a search field based on acreage size even if it could be grouped as per my original post somehow.

Elders and Buyacres.com.au do indeed do it I see Thanks Michael, will have a look through the selections there too.

much appreciated

cheers

I'm moving slowly on this as I already have a dark site at my 17 acre property.

But i know there might be opportunities out there so I'm looking!

My family have 2 lots of land at Coolongolook (about 45 mins from Taree, close to Forster) that could be good for dark skies (it's quite good actually, had my old C8 scope up there a few times). If there was some interest in it we may be interested in selling one of the lots.
