The Sun, Active Region 1057 and prom

Hi all

I went out for an hour this afternoon (encouraged by her who must be obeyed) - this surprised me as I had just returned from golf - I must have worshiped to the right god before bed last night.
I imaged the growing active region with my new (3rd time out) Lunt 60mm H-Alpha scope. This is a good piece of equipment. I have not used the additional 50mm filter as yet.
Taken with a DMK31 with a 2.5 Powermate - tweaked in Registax5 and the disc and prom images were blended in PSP - I must admit I do not give too much time to processing - probably should! Usual inverted presentation.

Some nice Proms and nice definition in the active region.

Great result Matt. spending loadsa time processing doesnt necessary drag any more detail out. More important is to get a good processing work flow going so that you can produce consistently good images, which you seem to have. then experiment with all that free time "shes allowing you".

BTW do you use AVIstack?? Im using it exclusively now...

Hi Matt,
Those images are looking good.
I have also discovered how viewing in negative can help you see different details. When People come over to my obs for a look see at the sun, I usually setup a Live View on a TV using the GStar-ex mono video camera. This camera has some wonderfull software control that lets you control all the settings on the fly from the PC such as exposure, negative, and clipping. So you can really make some features stand out or occlude the disk on the fly and focus on the prominences etc.

Yes I agree, AVI Stack is my program of choice for stacking images too. Besides it looks cool when it is stacking

thanx Bill - I dont get to view the boards regularly enough so by all means as questions to me may go unaswered for a few days.

Matt - It takes much longer than Regi but produces far superior results, especially for full frame shots such as solar / lunar. Any Qs post away...
