New Vixen Mount

I noticed a new mount advertised called a Vixen AXD
see
http://www.vixenoptics.com/mounts/AXD%20Mount.html
No price on it but a bigger payload than a G11 and hopefully well made as most vixen stuff is. Rated at 31kg load
Maybe my next upgrade from the EQ6.

Looks like a great mount.

I need to upgrade my SP DX which struggles under a AP130+ extras.

Can anyone advise if the bigger (Atlux etc) Vixen mounts have common bases? I would like to use my existing pier without modification.

Looks nice and tidy - but not available until fall 2010 (north) - my guess is you had better be prepared to wait 6-12 months longer than that for an AU release.

I see a new starbook too - I really hope it is more than just a bigger screen - it sure looks like it, PPEC etc - but I would not want to be the first SH user!

This would surely replace the Atlux?

Judging by the price of the other vixen mounts here in AUstralia, I bet it will cost well over $10,000

Been looking at these mounts myself and must say they certainly look the goods. No periodic error data available yet but they will have to be pretty good to out shine the Atlux mount. By the way myastroshop has an Atlux mount selling for just under 6K this month.

I've been looking at/dreaming about the Atlux for a while. Very nearly pushed the button last year but was not happy with the Star Book. I saw the AXD with Star Book Ten and thought "fantastic". Then I saw the suggested price on this Yahoo Group:

Its still a great looking mount.

So reading Vixen's product info - it has a main RA gear wheel with 270 (vs Atlux 180 teeth) and its rated to carry 70lbs (versus Atlux 75 lbs). Also note it uses the Starbook controller unlike the first two versions of the Atlux and the current top end GAIAX - which both use the far more capable SkySensor2000 hand controller.
