Wide filed images from Cape Otway

Hi All,

I spent a week with the family on the Great Ocean Road and used the opportunity to do some wide field shots.

The skies at the Cape Otway were amazing and I spent a night observing with a 12" Dob. NGC 1365 was very memorable with plenty of detail and so were the Antennae galaxies and many other DSO's.

The shots of the milky way and zodiacal light are just beautiful. I think you owe it to yourself to get some A3 or larger size prints done for the wall sometime!

Thanks everyone for the inspiring comments, much appreciated.

I stuffed up a little with the online album and it resized my images too small. I updated the album now so the images are 900px tall, it should make it a bit more detailed.

The "Show details" does not reveal all of the Exif data. Camera is Nikon D700, Lens - 14-24mm f/2.8 zoom, mostly at 14mm.

I usually set the exposure time to 15 sec/ISO3200 if I want to do a time lapse animation and 30 sec/ISO1600 for still shots. I then post-process using different gradients for the sky and ground detail and apply curves in Nikon Capture (sort of a "digital" gradient filter).
For some shots (like "sunglow over the rocks") I stack a few images together to get more ground detail and smoothen the ocean and then blend the single exposure for the sky and the stacked image for the ground.

It's all good fun, I enjoy both taking the shots and post-processing.
