Nagler/Ethos/Pentax

I notice there has been a few Naglers going up for sale in the classifieds lately. I was contemplating just running with a set of Takahashi LE eyepieces for lunar/planetary and sell my Naglers to build up a set of Ethos for widefield (I have one so far)...the Naglers are nice so I might have to think about the Ethos and build up a set of Naglers...but then I note there is a Pentax 10XW going as well which would complement my Pentax 20XW nicely..maybe a set of Pentax's....decisions...decisions

Go the Pentax XW 10mm!!! Hands down the best eyepiece I have ever used... Solid build, beautiful views and contrast, no vignetting/kidney bean effect, extremely comfortable to look through... I have looked through many televues, own several other brands, and the Pentax to ME is the best of the best :-)

I have Pentax XW 10mm and Nagler 17mm. Both eyepieces are excellent. I had a chance to look through 8,13,17 Ethos as well. But Pentax is the best for me too I have to say.

cheers

I second (third?) the idea of buying the 10mm XW. It is pretty much the perfect eyepiece. I doubt the LEs will be any sharper, and the Pentax has a wider FOV, as well as great eye relief.

Despite the amazing quality of the view, and it IS amazing, I just couldn't get to grips with the Pentax XW10. I found I had to hold my eye in position 'just-so' or the kidney beaning was ridiculous. Too MUCH eye relief for me. I'm probably the abberation as no one else has anything bad to say about it!
I found the Ethos's to also be too much work. I kept having to twist my neck around to take-in the entire 100*. If I observed comfortably, not bobbing around like a chicken, I wasn't getting any wider view than I would have gotten with a Nagler.
YMMV

Hi,

Did you wind the adjustable eye cup right up, which you need to do if you do not wear glasses?

Cheers,
