Messier, Caldwell, Bennett and Levy Catalogues

Hi Guys,

For anyone that is interested I've just uploaded my combined MCB&L Catalogue to my web site.

http://alsworld.topcities.com/astro/MCB&LCatalogue.xls

Some of you may already have my MC&B Catalogue

http://alsworld.topcities.com/astro/MC&BCatalogue.xls

It is smaller as it doesn't have a lot of the Levy Catalogue objects or comments.

Both are obviously MS Excel files with autofilters, etc. ...and the price is right, just for you!

Al.

Hmmmm... can't find an obvious problem... (but it's doing the same thing to me from these links).

The links work OK from the home page (if you can get to that!):

Lets see...

OK that works for me...

Can't explain the problem with the other links, they were cut and pasted, and look fine, but obviously they aren't well...

Awesome Sheeny! That's just the ticket!.. I'm gonna export it to Palm Planetarium and get rid of all the northern hemisphere "only" catalogs that are currently in there.
Thanks a million mate!

Al.

The Hartung Catalogue is about 1,000 objects featured in the revised edition of "Hartung's Astronomical Objects for Southern Telescopes : A Handbook for Amateur Observers" by Hartung, updated by Malin and Frew.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/se...1&Go.y=6&Go=Go

I have an electronic version of the catalogue somewhere.

Hmmmmm.... after buying a copy of O'Meara awesome book The Caldwell Objects,
and taking it out on a _very_ mild if any dew night. And seen my treasured book be
effected by such dew. I spent some hours creating a word document. In it contains
all objects listed by constellation in alpabetical order and indexed, Each object has
at least 2 discriptions from either W. Herschel, J. Hershel, NGC, IC or others where
applicable as well as basic data, Constellation star charts as well as sepaerate
zoomed in charts for each and every object. A standard basic data table in the rear
and a full index in the front, all pages are numbered, although there is a lil trick
you have to do when printing.

Pro's:
The first edition worked so well that in the second I formatted it into a usable book,
ie: indexed, ordered by constellation, included discriptions and basic data for all the
objects. I have found it an valuable addition to my charts. Having things ordered in
Constellation and I never have to take my book outside again, I can write my reports
straight on the charts and reprint the pages when needed.

Con's
All charts were made with The Sky software, could be a copyright breach
All object comments were taken from O'Meara book the Caldweel Objects, could be
a breach of copyright.

The document is 150 pages long and come in at 12+mg

Apart from that I would love to share it.

I plan to do a similar thing to O'Meara Merssier Objects. I also have just recieved a
copy of Hartung's Book the second edition. And I'm eyeing that up for the same treatment.

Edit: I call this "The Caldwell Bible"

regards,CS

What's the copyright situation on the electronic copy? I notice plenty of ads for the Hartung Book on the web, and I have found the basic list on web page but not in an easily extractible format.

I don't have a problems including data that's freely available on the web, but I don't want to get caught up in a copyright dispute .

Cool! If the list/data is public domain, and someone has a copy, I'm on broadband if anyone has it and is prepared to share... I still haven't turned up a readily usable version on the web...
