Some Movie Maker Help Please

Hi Guy, I was wondering if anyone could help in fixing Windows Movie Maker, all I get is "we have encountered a problem and need to close" this happens as soon as I open the program.

At other times, if I actully get into the program, and am half way through doing some thing it comes up with this message.

It is so frustrating, I cant get Corel DVD Movie factory to play either, just about to belt the Computer.

The maching has just been rebuilt with new power supply, new mother board and new 750 Gig hard drive as well, plus some other bits and pieces, so I'm totally buggered with what is going on.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Leon

Hi Leon,

I've just been having the identical problem with Stellarium 10.4 and am yet to resolve it, even with Barry's help.
However, for a starter, what is the error reported with sorry notice?
This may give you a clue.
Also, has this program run on this machine before?

Robert

Robert I says, Windows Movie Maker Has encountered a problem and needs to close, sorry for any inconvience, you may lose unsaved data.

Rob it has not ran on this machine after the rebuild and upgrade, i'm buggered if I know what is happening, but all the problems are DVD related in both programs, and that includes DVD Movie Factory 7, everything else on this machine works perfectly, and somre programes are years old.

Just a long shot, but could it be your video card drivers and/or is your dvd player being recognised properly. You could try deleting them from the device manager and reboot your machine and see if that helps, as it should auto load your drivers again. What operating system is it, Leon?

Leon,
With the sorry message there should be a clickable "details" - what does this this tell you?

Did you re-install windows after the HW rebuild? if not then it will be a driver compatibility issue, you will need to check for updates for all the individual components for your motherboard, most likely video drivers.

If you did re-install windows then again check for driver updates?

Best value, get a HDD partioning tool, create a D drive (you might have to do this in chunks as you only really want something between 15-20Gb for C drive), move all your data and application source files onto it, redirect My Documents to your new partition. Now you can blow away your C drive anytime and clean install windows with all your apps in about 2hrs, while keeping all your data intact. I do this once a year to keep things in tiptop shape, think of it as putting your computer on a diet to lose those extra kilos after winter.

Thanks Guys, Trevor I would be pretty lost doing what you have suggested, but I suppose my Computer man could do that.

Windows was reinstalled and all is up to date, I am working on a cure after googling up what others have done to fix this, and trust me there are many in the same boat out there, and all have the same problem.

It is really Microsofts problem, but of coarse they dont want to fix it because they are only supporting XP until 2013.

Anyway thanks for your help, I will get around it some how, or just deleat the bloody program.

re movie making problem

Hi Leon

I just got my son to read your post,he is VERY much into movie making.

We had a similar similar problem to what you discribe,However we had the problem with another program called adobe elements 7,not windows movie maker.

My son,had a friend really into computers and worked at a leading computer retailer, the friend was able to bump up the RAM,to double what it was,(at a very cheap price too!)these kids! It appears to have fixed the problem

my son finds it odd your having problems with window movie maker, but what you diescribe is the same as he had in his movie program. So hope that may help.We used to use ULEAD 10,an excellent movie program, works well on windows xp,but he got a new lappy last year it came with vista, and of course it did'nt work in vista.

Let me know how it goes Leon,i will run it by the 'panel' of kids again.!

cheers Chris

re movie makin

I my oppinion from what i have observed with these young fellas making movies,is that, your processor and RAM is very important,ie i notice, and this is my interpretation of it,is these processors come in 5 grades,my son has a pentium, thats about a number 2 grade, the one in my lappy is about a 3 grade-intel duo-core,older type but still a 3,newer lappys have super vodoo processors in there 4 and 5 grades.

it appears to me if someone has a 1 or 2 grade processor, with low RAM,they are really going to struggle movie making,i dont know why windows movie maker is causing these problems,i have never seen it do that.

As i say my son has pentium processor, and the program displayed same as yours Leon,in adobe p elements 7,my son had 2 GB RAM,but when uped to 4 GB RAM no more problems,usually-sometimes after he has been editing for a very long time,it will want a rest, but he is really making somebig movies etc,so maybe up the RAM.

cheers Chris

Chris it has been up graded to 4 Gig of Ram, and has a 3.2 Ghz processor and upgraded to 750 Gig hard drive, plus a update power supply installed.

I reckon that should be able to handle MM.
