Sunspots, Filaments, Plages Today 14-03-10

All you PST, Solarmax, Lunt et al owners out there should have a great view of the sun today. I had my Solarmax40 out around midday and there is an enormous filament passing near one of the latest sunspots in the N. Hemisphere. Quite a few low level proms as well. Cheers.

Great heads up! The Sun has more activity than I can recall - I only got into Solar in 05/06 and it is now coming alive!
That filament is very long! I got to see it for a short period this morning - the clouds and rain!

Glad I could help you today Matt, I set up the Solarmax as the clouds were coming and going as usual. In the meantime I just got the mower out and did the lawn (mostly weeds). You have to take the opportunity when you can and as I mentioned on the forum in the past, solar viewing adds a whole new dimension to amateur astronomy.

Cheers, Steve
