Video Capture Software

Hi All,

Came across this piece of software (free) this morning and decided to try it with the Toucam. Works a treat.

It's called " Debut Video Capture "

Here's a screenshot and a mugshot. The screenshot shows frames or is just an effect they use.

Interesting though as it lets me adjust Brightness,Contrast and Gamma in real time.
Might be useful for other beginners like myself.

Cheers,
Duncan

Yeah. Debut is good.
Just watch out when you click the "Toolbox" button.
You'll get more stuff than you bargained for.
Nothing dangerous but really not needed.
They also have "Eyeline", more security oriented but O.K.

The best and most feature packed in my opinion is Virtualdub and it's free

I had a strange report on my computer tried to download "Debut Video Capture" all the version 1 at a time and VISTA has reported them all as unsafe. I could download it first but was wondering if it may be possible a viral spyware program or something which it suggest to be?

Hi Malcolm,
Ididn't have any problems with my download. Might be from the source that you tried. I can't remember which source i used. Having said that "virtual Dub" looks even better. It's freeware as well

Just an update to my searching for a good capture programme. I saw someone on this site was using "wxAstrocapture". I've downloaded it and one of the first things i noticed was a GAIN CONTROL!.
DOH! and DOUBLE DOH!!.
How could i have missed such an invaluable component on other programmes.
I've tried this one just sitting in the lounge room and i love it. Can't wait for another opportunity to get outside again.
Damn i feel so stupid!!! Put it all down to beginners blunder,LOL.

Cheers Everyone

Thanks for the rundown on the free software (wx astro capture and virtual dub) but I tried it with my Logitech and it didn't work and I tried it with my Acuter and it just continually froze the system it saw the drivers but I couldn't get the webcam to start. Operator error again I'm sure.

I must say that they sure are smick programs and I am going to buy a new webcam and sort it out.

Thanks for the heads up.

Frank

I found in priciple wxAstro is very good with soo many feature, but it is very limited to cameras to work with. If it was more flexible with other cameras I would with no hesitation use it.

Hi Malcolm,

Being new to all this photography stuff i can't comment on that other than to say it works fine with my Toucam.
I think i saw on their site that new updates aren't far away. Just cant remember if it was that one or some other that i was looking at.

Cheers,
Duncan

I have been keeping myself upated over time. One of the problems I have been eperiencing is the ack f contro thaI am able to get with AMCap, mostly exposure whereas wxA is all grey'ed out.

I hope that is sorted in newer version bec wxA is very well thought out.

I've found that the GStarEx video capture software from MyAstroShop seems to work OK with WebCams.

No harm in trying - its free

I downloaded the Debut Video Capture and on first impression looks really good. One thing that really stands out is simple record button and saving AVI automatically time and date stamping the file name. Also the ability to name it whatever you want.

One day i get to test it.

Hi Malcolm,

I got rid of Debut as it crashed a few times. wxAstrocapture is the best i've found so far and is definately better than Debut. But i'll try this G-Star one as well.

Cheers
