do you know you are an astronomy tragic when u...

... are driving along in the middle of the day you absently notice that a high altitude commercial airplane is only producing a neat tiny or virtually non existant contrail, and the clear sky has no milkyness, is nearly a deep blue all the way down to the horizon - and then instantly your heart starts to pump and you are having palpitations from the adrenalin rush?

anyone else for tennis?

wow i was fairly right - same damn nice transparency tonight - pity about the twinkly stars! was getting fairly deep mag (for here) faint twinkling stars anyway -
NE the LMC had great geometric definiton, SMC surprisingly clear - luminous beacon Eta carinae neb was suspended in a web of a warmly ebbing but fainter glowing nebulosity, like a spider in its web kissed by the morning dew, floating in a gentle breeze - the running man cluster was almost blinding and threatened to run me down!

i am constantly thinking of the lovely star tests i have been getting and also i have been walking to the shop with the kids, seeing patterns that remind me of features on mars etc!!!

driving around tassie with work, constantly looking for land to build an observatory on!

my little nephews (2 & 4) have caught the bug much to their mothers disgust. They are pulling their socks right up whilst wearing sandals, stealing all the used toilet roll holders and using as telescopes and searching for the moon. very cute

Geeez! Now I gotta go buy sandals!

Does the Astro accessory list ever end!!

What sandals would you recommend Davo? Ultra-wide or budget? With or without sunburn filters? EQ, Wedge or Dobsonian Buckles?

You know you are an astronomy traggic when...

* When you drive past a mosque and wonder what size telescope they have?
* when you wear red tinted glasses during the day to prepare for your evening night vision.
* When you start giving distances to he next town in light years.
* When you shrink away from the Full Moon.
* When you wonder whether your favourite stubby holder would keep your Nagler warm (and dew free).
* When your wife keeps finding the bread without its bag and stail (little does she know if she switched to a bread that didn't come in a red bag she wouldn't have that problem!)
* You start dreaming up ways of cutting power to your neighbour's Xmas display (whether you're observing or not!)
* You feel sorry for those poor folk in biblical times who lost their night vision to that confounded Star of Bethleham!
* You start issuing death sentences for every person who has the nerve to have their headlights on as they drive past you and your scope at night (it doesn't matter they don't know your are even there!)

and last but not least (became I am very, very, very guilty of this one)
* The timing of your wedding and honeymoon are organised around a visit to the USA to see Comet Hale Bopp at its best!!!!!!!!!

Regards

Glenn
