Own a piece of History

With reservation I must sell this extraordinary telescope. Rather than describe it here, there is a complete website devoted to the scope at http://www.antiquescopes.com/Restoration.aspx

I will take the best serious cash offer or a trade for a modern complete telescope that I can use more easily.

This is an unusual telescope and in 4 years of research worldwide I found only 20 similar telescopes and recorded them here: http://www.antiquescopes.com/Telescopes.aspx no doubt there are many more around that I just don’t know of yet.

The telescope comes as is and has been restored using modern materials however original methods were used in the reconstruction as much as could be reliably determined. Just to make it clear, only some of the parts are original, thus it can be classified as a restoration or a reconstruction or replica, it depends on your point of view. The parts that are original are clearly identified on the website, and include both optics, badge, finder scope and some brass work, the major part that is NOT original is the OTA, however it is a very close replica, the best that we could come up with using a method called Castellation to hammer it together, there is nothing welded.

The telescope is long and heavy and requires quite a sizeable transport vehicle, it is about 10 feet long. The telescope is housed in a makeshift Dob styled mount, that permits you to use it, but the whole apparatus is difficult to handle especially if you are older or slightly built, it is heavy, but it does work, however I really think that this telescope is more of a showpiece than an actual working telescope, however that would be your decision. Thank you for your interest.
