"Any cash with that?"

It just struck me today, as I went to the dreaded Golden Arches for a quick (breakfast/lunch at 13:45) on my way to a meeting (I was fading quick), how often vendors offer/ask if you want cash with the order you just paid for through EFPOST.

I got me really wondering because I don't get charged any extra, I don't think, for taking the cash out (I'm pretty sure but could be wrong). This might due to the type of banking account i have that allows so many free withdrawals a month perhaps.

How is it to the vendor's advantage then if they're not making some extra profit from me? There has to be an incentive for them to be pushing this offer.

IIRC the banks charge them to deposit cash. More cash, higher charge.

Hence having you take it away can save them money.

Also, next time you need cash from an EFTPOS machine won't you think of going through "M" and ordering some food/drink?
You don't even have to get out of the car.

Now that certain banks charge you for withdrawng from ATMs if you don't bank with them, I'll often get extra cash out in an EFTPOS transaction instead of withdrawing from the ATM as it doesn't cost me a cent. Alternative is to find a credit union friendly ATM which are few and far between

Good times are here! NAB have merged their ATMs with Rediteller - so now I have lots of places that I can withdraw cash from my Credit Union account for zero transaction fee - up to my limit of ATM withdrawals per month.

The breakky/lunch ended up being the first bite of food I had time for at 1:45 PM...
so breakky was a "big M meal deal"
I end up eating there all the time for quick convenience and always regret it.

Then again, at least I never got food poisonning unlike a recent experience from eating in a small cafe...I wont eating that cafe's chicken wrap again...days in bed...not nice...

Good grief!! Is there a slackronalds in Braidwood now?? Thankfully I missed it when I was there in January.

I know what you mean about regrets. I was forced to eat at one about 5 years ago and regretted it all night. I think the bun was made from a mixture of sugar and quick-set concrete.

A friend of mine who runs a corner store with his wife, says the cash out system is the best
Now, at closing time they have very little cash in the till for robbers to steal, and he does not have to walk down the road with a large wad of cash to deposit at the bank
Not like my poor wife in New York 30 years ago. She was working in a restaurant and the manager gave her $10,000 cash and a paying in book and told her to walk to the bank 3 blocks away. AAAGGGHHH nobody riding shotgun. Boy, was she scared!!!

I spend a lot of time on the road and i was referring to one of the many peppered along the M4 in Sydney.

Having to eat McDonalds to save $2 on an EFTPOS charge seems a high price to pay to me
