Have I missed the boat with a Hartungs?

Hi all,
I hope someone can advise?
I have been trying to buy a copy of "Hartungs" and have had no joy so far.
I have been told its currently out of print?
Would anyone have any ideas where I should try next,or am out of luck?

PS:On another note:
I have just had the pleasure of observing at a really dark sky site for 2 weeks--out west--with the 10"dob(and even the weather and the moon behaved for me)--OMG--just awesome views, alot better than I expected!
Exellent stuff!

Cheers-Eric

Hi guys,

Hartung's classic book is definitely hard to get, listed by libraries and astronomical societies - but finding a copy - good luck. I have the original edition and also Malin and Frew's excellent revision. This was on a newsagency's chuck-out table for $10!!!!

I don't know if these sites are a help or not. They list the title. You can only try:

Good news and bad Eric,

I did a search for you on Amazon.com and found a second hand copy

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...g%27s&x=8&y=16

Bad news is they want $399.00 US for it.

I managed to pick up a 2nd hand copy of the original edition around 3 months ago and that was only after searching for 8 months.

It turned up in a bookstore in Sydney for $50

Hi Eric,

It will undoubtedly frustrate you to learn that at the October 2009 IceInSpace
Astrocamp at Lostock that Andrew Murrell had a mint condition copy for sale at
the swap meet at some very cheap price. It languished there on the table for most
of the morning and I was flabbergasted that no one snapped it up given what
a 'must have' book it is for any southern observer and given it is out of print.

Some picked it up and asked if it was any good?

Eventually someone did buy it ... possibly Chris from Victoria? ... but even then
it took a few of us to provide endorsements before the purchaser took the chance.

Good luck with the search.

Yeh Gary--thats life--damn it(and I was actually thinking about turning up to Lostock for a look see)
We hired the Lostock cabins out quite a few times years ago, when the kids were little, very nice spot --even with out a telescope!

Oh ---and a big thanks for the dark site tips Gary--the targets you suggested to get me going were perfect--wow-- what a differance from my backyard!
I couldnt get enough of Carina--nice!

Im starting to run out of leads with Hartungs--no one has any stock(I even phoned the publisher today and there are no plans to reprint at this stage).

Bugger!!!

I will just have to keep an eye out,but if anyone has anymore suggestions--please respond!

Cheers-Eric

Good news--I have just purchased an as new 2nd edition copy from Philip.
We had a nice chat and a quick sticky beak at his gear--very impressive setup(my wife just informed me not to get any ideas about observatories in our backyard--hmmm--will maybe work on that?)
Anyway everythings good----
Thanks again for all the help and advice--great result

I have the first edition, but its very old and worn. I have written in it, its been outside so many times and got wet.
But I still sit in my lounge chair take it out once or twice a year and it brings back many memories of old observing sessions gone buy.

I never did get the new version, just so attached to the old one.
