The morning after..........

............the storm

I arrived home last night about two hours after a big storm hit my little town. OK, I agree, nothing in the style of Qld and NSW, but pretty amazing. Lots of flooding. Shopping Centre evacuated as the ceiling caved in in part. Parks and tennis courts became swimming pools. Tree down. The Werribee river that has been a few stagnant pools in the 18 mths I have been there got a good flush out. Cannot see the shopping trolley wheels above the water any more!

Apart from a good wash, all that happened at my place was a cm of silt/mud coating the driveway for a few metres. No ingress into the garage, thank goodness - I had gear lying on the floor while I was in the process of working and reorganising.

Market gardeners are out trying to stand their broccoli upright again. SES have finished their work, now people are digging out - some places under plenty of mud, the local service station being one.

Terrible mess. Glad to hear no water damage in your home Eric.

We've had abnormal amounts of rain here this winter. The rivers are rising and flooding is starting to be a problem. One more gully washer and many people are going to be in a world of trouble. And to make it worse any high winds now will bring down a lot of trees with the ground this saturated.

About the time we dry out through summer we'll be on the look out for hurricanes.

And another big storm through tonight. Not as bad as last night - my driveway avoided silting up again (or maybe there is no loose silt left!)

But the Shopping Centre got done proper! Completely flooded this time. I saw all sorts of recovery and restoration crews outside around 7:30 going it sorted.

Sydney's storms of last weekend:
Our garage flooded due to water running off the neighbour up the hill.
My study carpet got drowned.
Of of the guys at work had part of his house flooded.

After about 40 mins on the phone on Sunday GIO took all the details, gave us a claim number, told us to expect the carpet inspection Tuesday and the builder Thursday. They both turned up on time. The wet carpet was cut and gone in about 30 mins (we'd removed the furniture), now just waiting to hear who the floor covering people are.

The other guy was told NRMA could not get an assessor out until Friday, and he wasn't to touch the carpet until then.
