Another simple sunset

Hi Al,

Just came back from a short break up at Port Stevens (a little way north of Newcastle). We went on a dinner cruise on Wednesday evening 10th February and we had a simply gorgeous sunset and took a snappy break from a very nice seafood dinner to capture a few hand-held pics of it.

Would have loved to use a slightly slower ISO and f/stop but the boat was rolling around a little and didn't want to go slower than 1/100th sec.

Canon 40D
17-85mm lens at at 56mm and f/6.3
ISO 400 and 1/100th second exposure
Slight crop from the original.

Comments and critiques welcome!

Best,

Les D

WoW! Great colours!! The sunset the last two days has been great. I was hoping for the same tonight. Alas that storm came across though, perhaps we may get some lightning as compensation.

Les,

A great image but sometimes the truth is better than a lie. Nice image.

Many people around me have pointed out that we have been having an unusual amount of beautiful and colorful sunsets lately. I wonder if it points to something.

Baz.

Not sure what you mean Frank -- I assume you think there was much processing done but in fact it was pretty minimal. From memory, just a small amount sharpening and colour emphasis work to emphasise the blue and orange from memory.

For comparison, here is the (unprocessed) original and a couple of other shots at about the same time but with slightly different colour temp settings on the camera. The first one is the original (unprocessed) and 2 & 3 are similar shots about the same time with 6000 deg K (cloudy) and the other 7000 (shade) and possibly slightly different focal lengths. All are unprocessed images.

Best,

Les D

I wasn't sure what that comment meant also, I assumed as you did. The Sunsets/rises in Sydney have been very speccy the last few days. Infact slightly under exposing the sunsets produced very similar to enhancing the saturation.

I am hoping we have mis-interpreted the comment, as you have not gone over board with the saturation.
Your images illustrate this well.

Frank- Please see my thread as this was the previous evening, also with little saturation added.
