Raw Images Not Found!

Raw Images CR2 How to open?

Thanks to all who have provided info to my request for assistance. To date no success to open a RAW image or put another way, open an image that is marked CR2. which was shot with the camera set to RAW. (Not RAW + JPG) I'm aware of how to set the camera from the program .

Three test shots were taken RAW and down loaded into Digital Photo Pro (Referring to the program instructions as close as it is possible to interpret them.)
Lined up in the EDIT window and each Thumbnail has : Canon - Date – number - .JPG, with an asteric after the JPG.*
Tools – Preferences - opens the tool window with three headings .
RAW- RGB – NR/LENS
Click on RAW the heading is high lighted but the info below remains in a grey unworkable state.
Click on RGB and it high lights, and when the angled line is moved, two small printed words appear in the lower right of the Thumb nail picture, RAW (In grey) and under it RGB high lighted.
Saving the three thumb nails to a folder and each pic shows only JPG
The three were shot in RAW but I cannot change them or open as CR2.
What am I doing wrong?
IS there any other program that one can down load the recorded images off the camera that might show the RAW shots?

Something doesn't sound right here. They should not have .JPG after them. If they are CR2 files, they should open in your Canon software no worries. Also, Deep Sky Stacker will open them when you load them to stack. If you saved them to your card and then transfered them to your PC, you may have corrupted them somehow or tried to save them as .JPG files and it has bunged them up some how. Are these Astro shots? Could you not capture them staright to your hard drive?

Certainly is odd Dennis, even with all the canon software including Zoombrowser, there is no reason that i can think of why they should not appear.

Once shot in Raw Cr2, they have to appear, the canon software that comes with your camera is pretty spot on in that regard.
What camera are you using mate.

Raw images. Camera Canon 1000D
Not astro images for this test. Camera setting AV. Set to RAW only.
Question as previous . Is there other free soft wear that will down load Raw. Could the camera be at fault. 4 tests were made (3 shots each) card cleared every time. Can I assume that the TOOL window RAW will not high light until it sees a RAW image? Thanks for your time to reply.

Dennis,

When you open the thumbnails in DPP you should be able to just double click each thumbnail to open with all the processing software. I have used the 1000D with RAW many times as I only shoot in RAW and process with DPP.

There is no free software that I know of that will process CR2 files.

Dennis,

Are you shooting first, then hooking the camera up to download the images, or are you shooting tethered? That is, are you using the EOS Utility on the camera to take the images for you?

Octaine,Frank, Leon, and Deception, many thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.
This morning early I formatted the camera card thinking it just might be at fault. I then took 2 exposures hand held camera only, with each setting with RAW eg. Auto, P, AV, TV , M.each shot was viewable in the camera LSD. Every one when displayed in D P Pro was or is marked JPG!!!
I've been around for quite a few years and owned a number of manual SLR cameras with success. I don't have problems understanding this 1000D instructions, but its a pain when the camera doesn't work as written.

Dennis we are not disputing your knowledge of the cameras and/or the processing, but i do think you have a fault in the system somewhere.

I will keep thinking, but that can be hard for me sometimes, they call it old age.

Leon, Yes I fully agree, but its most frustrating. Being old is not easy but the alternative isn't desirable.I tried to down load the Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and viewer for Win XP (My Computer model) but I failed. I cannot get it to open. I thought if I can prove the camera is to fault I'll take it back, I've only had it for about 4 weeks. Thanks for the time you and others have give me I do appreciate it.
