Cryptic critter - pipefish

I took this photo in the seagrass beds at the Jawbone Marine Sanctuary in Williamstown. These pipefish are incredibly hard to spot; as you can see in the photo, they look just like seagrass (it is in the lower half of the photo). This specimen was 7-8cm long and 2-3mm wide. This was the best of 20 or so photos; they just looked like seagrass strands in most of them.

Hi Phil,

As you said they are very hard to spot. When i lived in Sth Australia we would look for these and Sea Horses when diving the shallow reefs.

You have done well to spot and photograph this one.
