Same old question

I know you must be tired of answering this question, but I am feeling very frustrated after spending about 3 hours trying to find the south celestial pole.
I read this forum often but this is my first ever post and it's a cry for help.
I have been doig the polar aligment for months without much trouble, done all the basic steps and usually it is quite accurate.
However today something went horribly wrong and I don't know why, feeling very confused and angry at the moment, found several threads about this subjet in the forum, and I 've already done most tricks, I did the compass thing, the latitud is correct but I can't see the octanis stars, no matter what I've tried i always ended far farrrrrr away, I did spot them in the binoculars, but not in my polar alignment scope, nor in my finder scope, which tells me that I was way out of target.
I wonder if there is any method thad does'nt require to memorize all the background stars in that zone, I've tried that but it is a mess there, somehow I can't find them moving the telescope, although I can find them very easily in my binoculars and also when I detach the finderscope from the telescope and look by hand.
Any tricks?

This article should give you all you need to achieve a good polar alignment without having to find stars etc.
