Meade autostar 497

G'Day all,
This the second time that I have updated my handbox (497),the last time I did it was vai the telescope mount power supply .Can it me done by hooking it strait up to the computer via the cables suppled or do I have to go via the telescope mount controls to power it up.

If you have an old/classic 497 handbox, it can be updated using a phantom power supply, but this still involves an external 12V supply.
If you have the newer 497EP handbox, it's more of a problem
as it really cracks the sads if its not connected to a valid scope base.

Thanks Andrew I must have the later model were it has to be connected to the scope base ,I was hoping that their may have been external power supply available

Whats the firmware you have loaded
If its 43Eg, its an old Hbx and can be remote powered
If its 5xxx ( latest is 5CE1 ) then its a new Hbx.
