They have to be joking, don't they?

I just heard that the state government is spending $20M on fairy lights for the Westgate bridge. At least I'll have plenty of time to look at them while I'm parked on top of the thing trying to get to or from work!

Perhaps we should remind them that we need a more functional bridge, rather than a light polluting, carbon emitting $20M pink elephant.

I'm writing to my local member...

Cheers
Stuart

X mas has all gone but i,m so glad all the people with the brains live over that way.

It would be a shame to see what damage they could do way way out west.

Cheers Kev.

I can't believe that state governments are STILL ignoring light pollution. Fair enough, it's a big ask to address light pollution with alterations to current street lighting - but to plan to put in $20m of unnecessary new lights on the Westgate bridge? Dear o dear.

tbh I don't mind having the bridge looking the part at night, as honestly in the grand scheme of things it will contribute almost nothing to LP when you consider it is in the epicentre of a city of 4 million. Look at the nearby ports, now there is some serious lightage!

When you have high powered spotlights and things like that, that's when you've got problems.

THe thing is, how can it cost $20 million to install a bunch of bulbs??

Their not joking. The joke is on us, we have to pay for it. Lookout bridge travelers you will have a toll on it as soon as they turn the lights on.

Why?

I thought it may have been to mark the gates in the fence.
