What are the chances

Oh man i'm annoyed.
Finally got my new ep, but ive started back at work which means up at 4am and am supposed to have an early night. it took me two hours to get my lil one to sleep and im exhausted. Finally i go out to see the lovely clear skies we had half an hour ago and guess what..... cloud of course. Is this always the way. grrrrrr. Maybe i should get up an hour early and suss it out then, though im running out of sleep time really quickly tonight.

Sounds like you're in Sydney! Whenever the skies are clear, circumstances seem to conspire against me (like tonight). When there's cloud ready to roll in....I'm set up and ready to go!

Yep, I know how you feel as well.

I always find that weekday nights are the clearest when I can't set up and then of course the weekend nights will be cloudy.

The only solution that I see to these types of problems is to build an observatory

Hi Keenan, I would think probably around 10% have an Obs of some type.

That's only from what I've read in posts so it's a rough guess. It could be a good idea for a poll.

yeah that sound like a good poll q. Interested to see if any have built one themselves, and how theyve made them.

Here in the burbs I got an SQM over 19 last night - when we'd been out for dinner and no time to do anything. It's about 18.5 now in the direction of ngc104 and after an hour of fighting with drift I might be getting somewhere.

There's nowhere in the yard an obs would really go due to trees. It would have to be a 1st floor addition.

SWMBO would not be impressed.

Roobi, I find astronomy is a great way to practice my patience. But it can be very frustrating when everything seems to conspire against you.
I hope a clear night and a sleeping child are coming your way very soon. (and hopefully they'll co-incide.)

lol, Oh so do i. I've finally finished my two weeks work to continue my career break through this year, so hopefully plenty of nights ahead to gaze for hours. Might even try my hand at some more astrophotography.

Don't blame you mate. This week has been rough getting up at 4am and trying to see if the sky will clear by 11pm to get some sleep. Oh well all done now.
