Hi All,
I think the last time i posted an image might have been last March...
I've been so unlucky with clouds etc its not even funny.
And if you're wondering why the weather has been so bad ...i must have contributed to it when I finally took the step into the world of cooled CCDs by getting an STL11000M.
What a STEEP learning curve!
I'm just getting around the basics of it now.
I managed to test the camera with a couple of quick exposures to see that it worked when i first received it but it wasnt a proper "first light" as far as I'm concerned.
Here is what I'll call the real first light.
Thor's Helmet, NGC 2359
Shot with a C14 at F11 on a G11 (yes I like a challenge).
I'm waiting on an H alpha filter to come in as well as an autofocuser (which will assist as my focusing routine suffered a bit on this image)
I could only manage 2 frames of 20 min on each RGB (lost my only Luminance to a tracking error due to high clouds) (clouds hate me I have decided).
Only one dark frame used, no flat frame.
I wasnt happy with the overall framing but having acquired a few frames one night decided to stick with the same framing in the hope of securing enough frames all up for an image (good thing i did too cuz the clouds came back in with a vengeance after the second night of imaging).
It needs a flat frame master as well as a dark frame master i know.
a Lum of H alpha will probably also help define it better (as will better focusing...).
Color balancing was also a bit of an issue as the original combine seemed a bit biased towards green which i corrected for in PS before adjusting the color balance as best I could. Mono CCD processesing is a whole new ball game... now i understand why people say it takes a week to process images!
Anyways,
Desperate to get back in here with you guys with the imaging so here it is my Thor's Helmet in unnecessary extreme close up.
Thanks for looking
any comments/suggestions welcome of course (some will want to throw a few books at me I think!

)
cheers
Frank
