Do you keep all your boxes?

I seem to have quite a number of boxes around the place from various scopes, mounts and miscellaneous bits and pieces.

I figure I might need them one day just in case I decide to sell some gear and the buyer lives interstate or if I need to send something back for repair.

Do you keep your boxes or throw them away??

Yes and no.

OK, not all! I seem to keep the ones that I never use again!

I keep most boxes and store them in the shed inside garbage bags to keep spiders/debris out(with name tags so I know what's what). I also keep every piece of bubble wrap that passes through the house - apart from being handy for packaging it's nice to directly recycle stuff.

I'm with Eric - yes and no.

Infinite wisdom says to keep them for re-sending/warranty issues, but space generally becomes an issue and over time they get dumped.

Smaller boxes like eyepieces etc I generally keep, but big stuff, I generally give the flick. Maybe not immediately, but say after 2 months.

I kept my Pelican cardboard box for 6months, thinking I may sell it one day, but I've since tossed it out.

There's no real wrong or right solution, but maybe keep it if the warranty stipulates it must be returned in the original packaging. PITA....

I bin the big boxes i dont see the need to accumulate rubbish and i store in containers as such.

Some of the little stuff i keep till waranty runs out then out they go.
Cheers Kev.

I keep all boxes.....nothing (except the Mary Rose itself) is safe from potential future sale. Buyers seem to expect stuff (especially EPs) to be in their original boxes.

I keep most of the boxes, especially those that have special packing materials. Keeping my equipment safe from movers is important to me

I'm in the Yes & No catagory........

I've kept my original boxes for the 8" SCT & the CG-5 mount. Mainly because that's how I transport the OTA & Mount to whereever I'm observing.

Smaller ones for EP's & things - Yes. BUT I also disembowel them a little. eg; My WO 28UWAN box is still intact, but the internal high density rubber has been removed & fitted into my EP case to better accept the EP.

I've just received my 2 new Pentax EP's + my new Ethos.
I've run out of space in my 2 cases, so they will have to stay in their original packaging until I buy another case.

Yes, for all eyepieces and similar and No for the big scope boxes...

Stuff with a fair likelihood of future selling I keep the box...

I keep all the boxes for my scopes and mounts to transport them in and eventually sell them in when aperture fever sets in next week.

Problem with that is the boxes just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger....

I have all the smaller boxes inside the bigger ones wherever this is possible - this helps a lot.

I guess if I ever really need a box for a EQ6 (for example), a wanted add on icetrade would do the trick. So why am I keeping it? I don't keep the boxes for anything else around the house - just the astronomy gear.
