Halo around NGC 2822

A shot of NGC 2822 from last night.
This is a difficult object because of it's proximity to
Miaplacidus (Beta Carina).
There are not many shots of this object on the internet to
compare this field to.

Camera was cooled to 10°C with ambient at 29°C
Seeing was quite good last night but deteriorated after midnight.
Moon was about 90% full.

Edit: Added my shot rotated 180° and a comparison DeepSkySurvey/SERC frame from Aladin.
Resolution is pretty good in my image.
The Aladin database shows 3 X-ray sources in this field, shown as blue crosses.

Nice one Steve, Can't help you with any images of this as with my gear it is nothing more than a speck.
Glad to see you have your cooling operating. Does it make much of a diference?

Nice work mate. I assume this is a planetary nebula? I imagine that it would be hard to image given the proximity to a fairly bright star?

I've been following the thread on cooling the DSI2... Sure looks like its doing its job!

Yes Doug, lowers the noise floor very noticeably.

Not really Alex. It's down to the 12" mirror and a good sensitivity CCD.
It's gonna be there whether it's next to Sirius or not.
The halo is the part I'm amazed that I can get.

Nothing beats good seeing and a good light bucket following the sky well.

Most interesting. I also am looking to cool my DSI II. If these types of images are possible then it may sell be a good idea. Am reading the thread with interest.

I've attached a DSS/Aladin overlay on part of my upside down image
of a similar field and scale.
The only GSC/HST/Hipparcos cataloges I can overlay with any
mag indicators are all in Jmag(Blue) and Rmag(Red) values.
Not many visual mag estimates from any of these cataloges that deep.

But the circled triangle area has some values of 18s and 19s for
blue and red filter mag estimates.
There are even deeper stars in my image but none covered by
any catalogues that I can find.

I have to remind myself sometimes that:
This all from a set of 5sec frames on a homemade GEM, with
a homemade worm gear and Bartelisation, 12" F4.5 Chinese OTA,
A home cooled $500 Meade camera.....
from suburban backyard Adelaide!
The DSS image is from a 1m Schmidt Survey camera

I tried a 10 sec set tonight because the seeing was very good.
Camera was cooled to 14°C because dew point was expected to be about
10-11°C
First (almost) failure of the worm gear tonight.
I heard something go 'CLUNK'! Nylock nut had tightened
and the toothed belt slipped a tooth.
Lucky I was in the dome and heard it. Normally I'm inside Remote D.
That cut this set short at only 49frames.
I hope Paul H. got out last night. It was one of those rare nights.

Another run at NGC2822
This time after a very hot day here, overnight ambient is
sitting at 28°C with inside CCD temp at 34°C on the DSI II.
With cooling on I got it down to 10°C and dew point was
way lower at 0.5 because of low humidity.
Safer to go lower but I stayed at 10C anyway.

I have done two curves on 2822 to show detail near the core
and also detail in the halo.

Also, a quick set of the Fickle Finger. First cooled set
of Eta Car that I have done. (I think!).....A cold Finger
