Mount Mayon, very attractive looking volcano. Perfect, near symmetrical cone.

You know, if thousands are "fleeing" the volcano, maybe it needs some "flee" powder

It's definitely a good shape for getting those pyroclastic flows up to speed.

I wouldn't want to be hanging around in that area.

We're not as lucky as you might believe...most of Oz's volcanoes are extinct, but the ones down in Victoria/SA and up here in NQ are dormant. Yes, they have been for thousands of years (last eruption up here was about 5000 years ago), but that doesn't mean they don't have any chance of going off again. There is still some remnant geothermal activity up here derived from both remnant magmatic and radiogenic heating, but it could still happen...or maybe never again. Who knows.

What I'm worried about are the two plugs of acidic magma that are solidifying in the throat of the volcano. If they plug it for long enough, that town in the piccie is going to suffer the same fate as Pompeii did in 79AD.

Scary stuff indeed.
Just read a book on the Vesuvius eruption, and did visit Pompeii a few years ago - unbelievable stuff!! Walking throught the streets of an excavated Pompeii, and seeing their houses, fountains, streets, shops etc. Hope this Phillipines feela doenst do the same.

We think we have some control over the environment we live in. Every now and then, nature shows us who is really the boss.

Regards, Rob.
