DnD 4th Edition

Bought myself the new(ish) 4th edition DnD Core Rulebooks (DMG/PHB/PHB2 & MM) on the weekend... I plan to do some "light" reading over the holidays ready for a possible adventure with some mates at the end of January.

Anyone else a DnD fan?

Hi Simon & All,

Used to be very much into it in the latter years in high school, that plus Traveller & Diplomacy and a few other war games. But DnD was easily my favourite.

Once had a level 16-18 thief/magic user who had a pseudo-dragon familiar (very handy), but a malicious dungeon master killed them both off.

Great memories. I think I still got a set of dice somewhere ...

Best,

Les D

Yeah i used to play. normally mage classes, although i prefered to DM. Loved getting the players to make there characters weeks before the event and get them to make a basic back story as well with a few interesting ideas... then id throw some twists in there as well

A Warhammer role play was my best one

Yep used to play it back in my high school and early Uni days, still play it on computer now.

A fantastic world of escapism.

Cheers

Yup, I still play very occassionly (when my wife's work schedule allows).
My eldest son is approaching 7 years old so in a year or 2 I will introduce him to D&D and then I can play at home
4th edition is certainly a bit different to 3.5, but it is still good fun. It has borrowed alot from MMORPG but that should prove beneificial in attracting the WOW crowd and those familiar with MMORPGs as well as those of us who are old timers.
The good thing is, as always, you can play it any way you like. Some groups like the free form style and don't use miniatures while other groups treat it almost like a tactical miniatures game with a splash of role-playing. Thats the beauty of the system, it can be adapted to suit most styles of play.
Hope you enjoy it

Does anyone remember all the rubbish that came by psychologists and other people of note when DnD was at its height.

Essentially they were saying if we played DnD we would not be able to distinguish between reality and fantasy and we would be running around with swords and killing people or ourselves.

Looks like thirty years later we are still all here and the psychologists are now warning everyone about computer games.

Cheers

Moral of that lesson: We need less psychs and more STFU in the world.
