PhotoshopE6. How do I make a layer?

Hi folks.

ELEMENTS question only.

I want to experiment with putting a layer over the top of my photo's.

I basically want to put a coloured bar with text in it from one side to the other along the bottom of the photograph, going from transparent on the left, becoming more and more opaque toward the right and ending in 100% opaque at my logo.

Anyone know how to do this? It's driving me crazy!

I have Skype for one-on-one tuition and I don't charge to listen to you...

Baz.

It's OK.

Thank you Steve.

I got an answer from another forum. I appreciate your bump mate, that was nice of you.

Cheers,

Baz.

I used layers, marquee tool, graduation of foreground color to transparent, clicked and dragged a few times in the selected marquee until I got the desired effect, then created a new layer and pasted in my logo, followed by a free transform to size it. See my thread in DSO photography on building an astrophoto to see the result.
