Macro – there IS such a thing as a FREE lunch…

Hello,

We noticed this spider, at dusk, in the shrubs near the car port and I made a mental note to attempt a macro shot the next day. Returning the next morning I discovered that the spider had snared a bee so I grabbed a couple of shots, struggling with the wind blown web.

It wasn’t until I began processing the images that I noticed a small, fly like insect had landed on the bee and was grabbing a free feed whilst the spider was presumably tenderizing and wrapping up its evening meal!

Cheers

Dennis

It's a fly. And, blowing a bubble. Don't think it was grabbing a feed of the Bee though, at least definitely not in that shot. Nice female golden orb weaver too.

Great work, Dennis. You're totally addicted now... thinking about things you see to come back to shoot macro

Flies blow bubbles like that quite a bit - sometimes it's clear, sometimes a browny/coffee looking colour - supposedly it aids their digestion. That fly looks very pregnant, too.
