Storing Carbon

After the cloud rolled in (see my previous thread) we retired indoors for tea, coffee and conversation. The conversation turned, as it does, to climate change and the ETS (aka Opposition Unity Reduction Scheme). Wally pointed out that body fat contains a lot of carbon. So anyone who is packing on a few kg is doing their bit to reduces atm CO2. In fact he is planning to apply for a gov't grant to become obscenely obese.

In the light of this I felt a whole lot better about myself. I realised that I am making a contribution. Who else is pulling their weight.

BTW any sensible, reasoned response to this thrread will qualify the author for an accountancy scholarship.

As a "waist band overlap challenged" or "mass enhanced" invidual I am happy to learn that I have been doing my bit for the environment...

This hypothesis is particularly welcome as those of us in the USA approach Thanksgiving and the family feasts that are associated.

I feel much better about saying pass the mashed potatoes for another heloing.

It'd have to be a lot better than that silly carbon sequestration idea they've been bandying about. Being a geo', I can see a whole lot of problems happening with this idea.

Somehow I don't think my wife agrees. Has anyone ever died from eating an excess of salad.


As another Geo I agree Carl, sequestration is quite the joke.
Take those billions they want to spend just to examine if it's viable and put it into solar power.

You would probably be able to put a few panels on every roof in Australia, feed into the electricity grid and do some good for the environment.

The irony in all this is that if this ETS non sense gets passed (and sadly I think it will) people won't have any money left to buy food very soon. Just watch the snowball of cost affecting everything dependent and revolving about energy consumption

Using the same logic as being overweight helping capture carbon, those of us that have children are also helping. I only have 3 kids. Surely others have done much better.

if we eat less we .... less therefore reduce effluent output etc etc
