While no where near Paul Haese's superb shot of the same galaxy I was interested to see what my new system could do re tracking etc. I collected 30x5min subs and was happy whith the guiding etc using the QHY8 in 2x2 binning mode. Its interesting to see what a dark site and longer subs can do for an image re noise etc. when comparing / looking at Paul's shot. The histogram of my subs starts at past the 50% mark when shooting from my backyard - not exactly a dark site.
Comments welcome.

Allan this is definitely long sub territory. I think 10 minutes on a mono camera is about right or 15 minutes on a DSLR. I like your stars in yours and you have some nice detail too. Try the longer subs I think you will get something out of it.

Nice image of this really tough target.

Thanks for the kind comments, Paul and Peter. I agree a tough target and the need for really long subs and a lot of them. I desperately need to get to a dark site to do some of these objects justice - but love your shot, excellent.

Very nice Allan, A lot harder target than it looks. Requires loooong exposures and lots of them to make it work. This is well on the way. Persistance is the key with this little galaxy.
