It does seem to be more active in recent weeks. The feature that caught my eye this morning was a beautiful arching prominence, though there's quite a bit else happening too: active regions, filaments, a vast cloud of gas in one area (not sure what the technical term for that is). It's a good time to get that Ha instrument before our dollar reverses course.

I'll see what surface detail I can pick up using my white light film.

JJJ our star has been more active in the last month or so and it now seems like cycle 24 is well under way. By this time next year I am expecting that that daily sunspot number will be around 40-50. It is between 20-30. That might seem like a lot but in reality it means there are 2-3 active regions on the surface at present.
