Giant meteor i just saw...

Did anyone see the large meteorite or space junk that just broke up over south east queensland about 1 hour ago? It was huge! I stopped on the side of the road, as did all the other cars in front and behind us and watched it disappear over the horizon. It was in 2 large pieces. Just before is disappeared i remembered i had my camera so i took a picture but by then it was very faint and the image not so great but here it is anyway...

It was in the sky for approx 3-4 minutes. It was directly overhead originally and was extremely bright. I thought at first that it was far too bright to be breaking up and burning and thought it was a low plane or hot air balloon but then the second burning piece appreared and we decided to pull over, as did many other vehicles. Too bad i forgot about my camera when it was at it's brightest

cheers

Sam,

Great that you at least saw it. I'm sure it was awesome.

sighting last night se qld

My husband saw a bright yellow object speed across the sky last night, approx 9:30'ish. He called out to me but by the time I got outside the house it was too late & I missed it. However, it was extremely interesting to see a very obvious & large trail, like a vapour trail, left behind it. This hung in the atmosphere for at least 15 minutes or so after, gradually moving into an arc shape before eventually dispersing.

This was a spectacular sighting and we're interested to hear if others saw it, and in your comments about the trail.

regards
KK1

Welcome to IceInSpace Julie. Just out of curiosity, was it your husband who phoned in to 612 ABC Brisbane this morning a bit over an hour ago?
