I sure miss Australia...

I arrived home this evening to be greeted by a 37 degree F (2.7 C) temperature and overcast skies...bummer.

Winter is coming to North America...

On the positive side, tonight after dinner my wife proudly brought out a "special desert treat"...

She had found Tim Tams...well at least a licensed version of them. It was a first for us...

The Pepperidge Farms "Tim Tams" are not quite as good as the originals but after 7 months without any they sure tasted good.

It reminded us all of how much we are missing Australia!

LOL Scott,

I hope you bit the end off them and sucked milk through them as
per Oz Tim-Tam Etiquette 101?

BTW...33deg today here in Adelaide, and a week ahead of high 30s
predicted. We have already been in the pool for 2 weeks! November!

Steve

Of course you can! My ex wife loved them, and our cupboards were full of the damn things. There's one of those American import stalls down at our local shopping mall that stocks those and other stuff from the US.

I have some friends that moved from Australia to Washington DC (now in New York). The winter cold was the hardest thing to adapt to

I think your body adapts over a long period of time. When I moved in Oz in January 95 I shifted from a comfortable -7c to an insane +38c in 24h. It took me a good two months to adapt.

Didn't feel like it at the time believe me. I reckon your blood thins out in warm climate and you feel the cold more. Apparently thinner blood makes you live longer? Now if the temp hits 15c I'll start getting cold

Here in Thailand you can get two types of Tim Tams. One is made elsewhere in Asia but you can also get teh originals imported from Australia at a much greater cost. The ones made in Asia are not even close to the real thing. I can also get Vegemite!! BTW some cold weather would be good for a change.

You can buy Peanut butter cups via USA foods in Moorabin, Melb. (I think they just moved from Brighton???)

The wife has bought Hershey stuff through them before.
She has also sent Tim Tams through the net in recent weeks to the USA.
You can even buy four'n twenty pies in the US.

US people adore tim tams..So funny. Pity about though vegemite, hahaha.

We were searching on the net this past week, as my niece wants to experience an Aussie meal...So we will probably send some Aussie stuff to NY from the net and by the time we get there, hooah, great eating.

Wow and thanks for all the posts...it is interesting the things people miss.

While we lived in Australia we longed for "A&W" (Root Beer), "RC Cola" and Jiffy corn bread...all of which are available at the USA Foods Store in Melbourne...there was also a candy store at the Warringah Mall (I don't remember the name) that also had candy from around the world (and A&W)...

Now in the USA it is #1 Tim Tams as well as a whole host of other things like Lamingtons (my wife can make a pretty good one that has already been featured in a local bake sale) and I am almost embarrassed to say a "Kebab"...

I don't mind the cold (I'm self insulating) so much but my kids do...for me it is the darkness at 5:00 pm that is hard....I won't mention the lack of Southern Sky sights and the clouds we have had here, they have been shocking...

Anyway, I sure do miss Australia... your posts have helped make me smile.

Not to mention Dark chocolate Tim Tams and Black forest Tim Tams, which are currently my favourite.
