Ngc 4945

Hardly the best image of this one ever posted, but was pleasing on my eye after playing with various faint fuzzies of late, so thought I'd share.
Thanks for looking.

Rob,

A great shot and I love the little fuzzy in the top left.

Interesting to compare your image with an image of 4945 I took through a 5" SCT in 1984

see how good your image is?

Nice image Rob, This is quite a hard target and without lots of exposure is just a faint fuzzy.

Well done.

Very nice image Rob. Good to see the progress of astro-photography with the Mike comparison too.

Thanks Frank - I had a quick look for that one in Starry Night, but wasn't listed. Is nice to see more fuzz in the same frame though.

Wow - you've been in the game a while then Mike. I'd never noticed that part of your site before - amazing pics for the technology. I love the awesome mosaic series. Does put in context how spoilt we are today too.

Thanks Doug - I guess they can't all be as bright as M83!

It's a great target.
You've done well on it too Rob.
I love that it's one of the few galaxies that show so much colour.

Yes over 25yrs now...with a 10 year break in there trying (without success) to become the World's Strongest Man

Did you notice the David Malin amplified version of my 4945? only really amplified the analogue noise :

Cheers Jeanette. I'm pretty sure you mentioned this one to me sometime - might have even been astrofest? Was a good write up in S&T earlier in the year that drew my attention too. The lightish background around the galaxy would have left me worried about noise/pollution if it was a city shot, but I suspect its faint stars/milky way after other shots from Duckadang. Glad I had a go.

I can relate - first got hooked during biology camps during Grade 11/12 in 1979/80 playing with the schools telescope, and then spent a few years with a Tasco 4.5" reflector (0.96" eyepieces...) I was lucky enough to get as a Chrissy present. This is my "2nd time around", and I'm constantly amazed at the goodies and technology now available. And I can even fiddle with my PC at the same time - 2 hobbies for the price of one.

I thought I had a good look, but didn't notice the D Malin treated shot (my wife wouldn't be surprised...)
Looks like you had access to some amazing equipment and expertise back then - crikey! What a great grounding in astronomy.
