Sun Dog
I just went out to check on the cloud situation and saw this.
It was just beautiful!

Lovely cloud formation there Jeanette
I don't mind the clouds, so long as they are con fined to daylight hours only.
Cheers

Hi JJJ.
A rare capture of our Sun's red dwarf Companion
.
I like it.
I have only seen that phenomenon about 4 times in my life.
Once it was very nearly as bright as the sun itslef.
Good work.

That was as bright as it got, it faded a few minutes later.
This is the second one I've seen in the last couple of years. The last time there were Sun Dogs on both sides of the sun. But... as we were driving in the car, I had no camera handy.

There's a great collection of Sun Dogs and Halos etc. here.

If you go to the "Clouds that Look like things" section, and scroll right down, you'll see my Rubber Ducky cloud.

Nice shootin'. One of those "lucky to be in the right spot at the right time" shots.

Great capture JJJ. We've seen quite a few now, but the coolest thing we've seen was a circum-zenithal arc. I got Anne-Louise out to see a Sun Dog and she looked up and drew my attention upwards and we nearly fell down. I still can't believe how bright it was.
Posted the image on another thread.

Always on the lookout for a Sundog, never fail to look straight up if I see one, just in case, but the sun has to be 22 deg above the horizon I believe.

Thanks Tony.
I did take some extra wide fields to see if there was more than my eye could see. Hope springs eternal.
You really do need that high light cloud to get the refraction don't you.

Good stuff jjjnettie, congrats!
Fascinating place the sky, even when there's no stars out (well, one LOL!). Here's a link to some of my shots, hope it's interesting.

That's a wonderful collection Rob.
Something to aspire to.
You must have your camera with you ALL the time.
I should do the same.
